Boom Sumo runs on three core inputs: Left Click to push opponents, Q to launch yourself to safety or stun nearby enemies, and E to activate your ultimate ability. The Q launch ability serves double duty as both an escape tool when you are near the edge and an offensive stun when used on opponents. New players who ignore Q and rely solely on Left Click pushes miss half of the game's combat depth. All controls are configurable in the settings on the top left — adjust them to whatever feels most natural before your first match.

The main lobby of Boom Sumo contains an obby — a parkour obstacle course — that rewards you with a hidden code upon completion. The CHICKEN code, earned by finishing this obby, grants 5 free Keys that do not appear on any standard code list. This is one of the most overlooked free rewards in the game, and many players never discover it simply because they head straight to matches without exploring the lobby first. Complete the obby on your first session and claim the Keys before spending any time in the arena.
